Peace and Unity through I AM
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
This statement of Jesus, has possibly been understood in a way that seems to exclude other faiths. People also who are not necessarily followers of Christian religious doctrine, but who still value highly the vibrational field of love, kindness, peace, integrity and honesty and move from grace.
Misunderstanding has perhaps inadvertently prevailed within the history of the Christian religion that has possibly overlooked the essence of what Jesus was really meaning. He was misunderstood in many ways, was he not?
Moses, it says in the Bible, was told one of God’s names is ‘I AM’. He was told by God to say ‘I AM’ sent me.
‘God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.'”(Exodus 3:14)
Whether or not Jesus travelled in the ‘missing years’, when apparently nothing is recorded about him from the age of 12 to 30 – we don’t know. However, it seems evident that when his ministry emerged after his baptism, his true position is certainly one with God, in harmony with God. Even God embodied and God’s love flowing out to all of humanity, through Christ.
It is said in the bible we are ‘co heirs’ with him in the Kingdom, in unity and peace, by the spirit.
I suggest, and others have suggested (eg Rupert Spira) that perhaps Jesus meant ‘I AM’ is the way and the truth and the life. No one can come to discover God in their own heart without recognising ‘I AM’ as the truth of who we are, in essence. Is that blasphemy? Or is that simply what Jesus was saying that is true for us all? ie no separation.
Perhaps it is blasphemy to deny God is permeating everything as divine energy – including our own being?
‘Nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.” Luke 17:21
Our True position is beloved children of God
Our True position is beloved children of God, the one True indivisible Self. One with God. Not ‘equal’ to God but in harmony with God, through the light of God that can be called ‘Christ’.
But ‘Christ’ is not the only name of this love and light and spirit of God- is it?
May be some call it ‘Krishna consciousness’, or ‘Buddha nature’, or ‘Shiva’. Is it not truly all the same thing in essence?
Of course religions manifest in tremendously different and unique ways but in essence they are the same because they point to the one indivisible universal truth. Sat, Chit, Ananda. Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Absolute, Consciousness, Bliss. Enlightenment. The Dao….
I simply say these words as a bridge somehow to a deeper truth and to illuminate some basic common assumptions that seem to apparently prevent more peace and harmony in our world. The world is perhaps not in reality so fragmented and divided as it seems.
In Truth we are One.
There is only one being. There is only one ‘flesh’, appearing as many. The spirit of love and light permeates everything and is our true unified nature.
We are all the ‘Christ’ ‘You are the light of the world‘ (or we could say we are the ‘Buddha’ (the enlightened one), ‘Shiva’, ‘The Dao’, ‘Krishna consciousness’
We are all the ‘Body of God’ appearing as many. A unique expression of God and yet at the same time we are made ‘in his image’ in unity and oneness with His spirit – are we not?
How can I say that when we are so commonly thought of as down to Earth human beings? How ridiculous and how blasphemous perhaps you say? I can understand that when we are all hypnotised by the dream of dualistic thought and understanding of the world.
We are NOT one with Christ though, AS the separate self!
The separate self does not even really exist! It is only who we THINK we are. It is psychological. A mental construct, an imagined self image. But when we are convinced we are that – it is like it is believed into concrete and tangible existence.
However, through the death of the consent to believe we are the separate self alone and through the Resurrection of True Self Realisation! We are literally saved from suffering. Peace and true freedom is found and lived – as the one true formless self. Unborn and imperishable.
It is like being released from the prison of our own minds.
“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
We are all an unfolding expression of the one undivided source and the purpose of our lives is to wake up to this extraordinary discovery!
The universal I AM is ‘the way’
This song is a wonderful celebration of this! Highly recommended
I AM THAT! By Georges Kamau
Truth is always here – unchanging, pure, unmanifest, undivided and indivisible.
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
In conclusion, this statement by Jesus seems to have been interpreted by some as the only way to God being through ‘Him’ ie Jesus of Nazareth.
But what about if Jesus spoke of ‘him’ self – not as a personal human self but as the I AM one, indivisible universal consciousness, as The True Self.
Otherwise, this seems to exclude all other paths to God that are beautiful and sacred and that also point a way to union with the divine. Some Christians, it seems have been taught somehow, to not look or discover or explore other religions, but to avoid doing so because other paths are not the path of Jesus and are possibly even seen as misguided at best and evil at worst.
I have not found this to be true at all and actually not in harmony with a God that is universal and inclusive and shines on and in all and permeates everything. It has been a huge joy for me to explore world religion with an open heart and an open mind and to discover God’s radiance shining though.
I love the diverse ways to God, to freedom, to peace and value all of his paths and prophets and signposts.
Embracing different ways to God
This is a varied rich tapestry of a world with many different coloured threads!
What I have found is that I love the diverse way in which God has created a rich and colourful rainbow of lovers of God, just like he has created a diverse range of types of food. The rainbow comes from the one source, the white light, the pure absolute light of God.
Through the prism of our human thinking an array of colour manifests. The face of I AM radiating forth from the heart of all faiths, as love, light, harmony, peace and joy. May be Christ light is called by different names but it is still the same light. Just like water is called by different names in different languages but it is still water!
The pattern of awakening to truth, overcoming selfishness, serving others and not doing harm, loving your enemy and loving God about all else is not unique to any one faith.
As humanity awakens to the true place, realising the God Self within, we can really meet as one in this divine sacred heart of being and REAL PEACE will prevail.
Not a world divided by skin colour, race or religion, but a world in love with the sacredness of life. A world at home in God. It is already so on some level as it is the phenomenal world that evolves and grows, but the non phenomenal realm is already infinite, unchanging, unborn, pure, perfect and true.
PEACE IS HERE! It can also fully be discovered right now and is REALITY right now in this present moment – here in your own heart of being.
Having said that, perhaps it is time to overcome apparent tribal religious competition and superiority on a phenomenal level that has caused so much misery and bloodshed. It is rooted in the dualistic (divided) thought that we see in the ‘fall from grace’ that is spoken about in the Bible in Genesis, when Adam and Eve are said to have eaten from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. That is a metaphor for falling into ‘us’ and ‘them’, dualistic mentality. Is it not?
When, by grace, we do what Christ actually did (total surrender) and really ‘follow Him’ and ‘overcome this world’ (or ‘transcend the mind’). When we really swallow his blood and ingest his pointings. When we take in the bread of life and digest his body as our own body, then we have the auspicious opportunity to wake up to the heavenly realms and see through His loving, accepting, universal eyes in Holy communion with the Lord of this universe.
‘Death to Self’ is transcendence of the serpents voice that distracts seekers of truth. Stand firm in the formless ground of being. Awaken to who we truly are. Follow your joy, dive into radical surrender and trust in God.
I pray we see the God Self in every human heart and that it is revealed that we are already One indivisible Spirit.
Unite as one human family, in the grace and blessing of God. Perhaps the ‘new covenant’ is now really healing the world at this very moment and bringing all nations together by the power of universal truth and infinite grace.
