Being Cured of the Belief that I am Human

Acceptance, Love and Gratitude for the Human Form.

The human form is a wonderful vehicle for consciousness to explore many dimensions and expressions.  Without this precious form we cannot have the chance to awaken to our true nature.  There is nothing ‘wrong’ at all – or unsavoury about the human body or indeed our beloved species called ‘Homosapiens’.  But is it essentially who we are?  ‘Homosapiens’ is the name we selected for our species which apparently means ‘wise human’.   Homo is the Latin word for ‘human’ or ‘man’ and sapiens is said to be derived from a Latin word that means ‘wise’ or ‘astute’.

However – to be really wise is perhaps to look beneath the surface apparent reality of this universe and to wake up to the realisation that all forms and names are passing phenomena.  Everything is coming and going, isn’t it?  Everything appears to be born as form, living a so called ‘life’ and changing and evolving and then disappearing into the nothingness from whence it appeared to arise.

What knows this Changing Play?

What witnesses the evolving dance of life?  What observes this changeful theatre of consciousness?  What is the non dynamic presence behind the dynamic and miraculous manifestation?

Awareness of the True Self

Is it not the absolute, infinite, timeless, undivided One?  Is it not the Source, beyond any concept of such things?  Is it not the laser light and love of God that is beyond the capacity of human understanding?  Is it not that which cannot be named or owned by any religion or labelled accurately by any words – that knows this changing play?   Is it not YOU?

We, as humans, love experiencing life through this form though!

Yes – ‘we’ do!  But as what, in truth?

Are we actually human?  Is it even permissible in our society to really question this?  Many people would absolutely declare that we are human – 100%.  Weddings are celebrating the coming together of two human beings to love each other and share their lives.  Funerals speak lovingly of memories of a human life, of someone we love.  All this is beautiful and important.  We value highly the humanity that we share, and the qualities of a courageous and loving human being.  How can we possibly question the ‘fact’ that we are all human beings?  It feels almost offensive to our collective agreement that humanity is reality.  We pride ourselves on being human.  This idea that we could be ‘cured of the belief that we are human’ may seem ridiculous to 90% or more of the population perhaps.  Why would we want to be cured of something that is good and so obviously real?   Real at least to the dualistic mind.

But are we essentially human?  Yes – and No.  Such is the paradox of Life!

Perhaps we could say within the dynamic expression of Life we are apparently human but as the non dynamic indivisible spirit we are pure awareness.  This infinite awareness is beyond the finite physical form – it is consciousness.  Just as the ocean is beyond the apparent individual wave form – it is water.  Do we see the profound implications of this realisation?  It is the discovery of our True and eternal Life!

However, we fall in love with our bodies, our personalities, our creative expressions, our potential, our dreams and this magnificent creation.  Blessed and beautiful it is in so many ways.  We fall in love so much so that we develop strong ideas of what we want from life.  We can begin to cling perhaps to our cherished desires for a better life, don’t we?  Something seems not quite complete, doesn’t it?  Our intentions and projections can grow and proliferate to such a degree that we can become unaware of the hold they begin to have on our being.  The intentions become the tensions inside.  Especially as our dreams or hopes begin to perhaps not quite work out as we had planned.

If we are indeed wise we begin to search from a deeper fulfilment through some sort of mindfulness or deeper enquiry.  We can begin to wake up and see that these hidden desires and projections can keep us locked into a kind of misery of neediness and dissatisfaction, can’t they?  Does that resonate?  If it doesn’t feel free to discard what I am saying!

We can become bound by mental slavery to our own attachments and pursuits in the phenomenal realm.  Perhaps chasing fulfilment through a dream of fame or fortune.  Or may be we just want a comfortable life, a relationship, a child, a new job, or even food on the table?  We can believe we will get what we want one day  – surely?  One day in the future, as a promise.  Whilst we continue to feel unsatisfied and somehow lacking something it seems.  Does this ring true?

‘The Kingdom of God is everywhere but you do not see it!

The sages point to the fact that the Kingdom of Heaven is within you now, don’t they?  Divine presence is here and already totally complete and free.  Through this awakening to what is true and unchanging and omnipresent.

As Jesus himself says here ‘The Kingdom of God is not found by looking out.  No one can tell you, “Look here” or “Look there” The Kingdom of God is within you…..The Kingdom of God is everywhere but you do not see it!’  (Book of Yeshua, 42:88- 89, The Perennial Way Expanded Edition, Bart Marshall)

Some seem to say that heaven cannot be here because there is evil in the world and awful things that happen.  This is not therefore ‘Heaven’.  But is this what Jesus is saying here?  No!  He says ‘The Kingdom of God is everywhere but you do not see it!’  That is profound!  Just stop for a moment perhaps – and drink that in.  May be you do see it?

If we are called by a deeper love for truth and what is real then we can willingly surrender and empty out all desires and memories and attachments and ideas about who we are and what we want from this world.  We can even surrender our own idea of who we think we are that is mostly only thoughts and conditioning.  Then we have a chance to be ‘Cured of the Belief that I am Human’ and to discover our True Position, in harmony with God.  As Jesus did!  As the Buddha did!

Do we have the courage to really do as Jesus did?  See what he saw?  Is that even possible?  Many liberated beings say YES!  In fact perhaps heaven is so obvious and so simple and so natural – that it is overlooked.   Our minds are so complex and busy that we can miss the simple and obvious truth and power of being alive.  Like a bird, busy looking for the air!

Wake up to this profound and enlightening realisation of our True Place.

I recommend watching this part of Mooji’s Tiruvannamalai – Enough Seeking, Now Find — This is My “Whoosh” Satsang! India 2020

See the profound effect of this transcendence!  1 hour and 5 mins into this video until around 1 h 19mins 30secs an awakening occurs and as Mooji says – ‘we have to be cured’  (watch until the end of that section!)  Here we have the privilege to witness this release and relief.  So blessed we are to have such pure grace with us, here only for our freedom!

The false self transcended and the pure Self discovered, is like the eggshell discarded and the chick is free!

If we have the courage to surrender the personal separate self and all thoughts of separation and division in this dualistic realm.  In my view, this is partly what the Holy Cross represents.  If we place all we think we are and all we want from this world at the altar of God and say genuinely ‘Lord, rid me of ego and replace me with you.’  Then, by grace, we can begin to see that what we imagined ourselves to be is so small, constricted and tight.  Ego is an important part of the play but tends to be selfish, limited and finite.  It is only a mental construct and so therefore not even real!  There is SO much more to who we are.  Limitless, boundless existence, beyond any understanding or description.  The false self transcended and the pure Self discovered, is like the eggshell discarded and the chick is free!

The shell, from the inside, seems to be the only limited world there is until gradually something opens up that is quite miraculous!  The shell is then discarded and redundant once the new freedom is discovered!  Again – a symbol of the power of awakening to the deathless realm – like the Holy Cross.  No wonder chocolate eggs are eaten at Easter.
